# Story

#TherapyToo is a seven-episode documentary series that follows therapy harm advocate and survivor, Amy Nordhues, through her journey of activism.

Along the way, the series introduces other survivors and their families through Amy’s advocacy, as well as experts and whistleblowers who expose the therapy harm narrative.

Exposing the devastating consequences of this misunderstood form of abuse, the film is an educational journey through all forms of therapy exploitation, male victims, intersectionality, reporting and retaliation, collusion in the field, subsequent challenges in new therapy after exploitation, and finally a reunion of survivors creating the #TherapyToo movement.

EP 02

Breaking The Silence

Amy introduces Ken Schultz, a male survivor abused by his female therapist, exposing the stigma men face when reporting harm. Through Ken’s story and the voices of his loved ones, the episode follows his fight for justice and a roundtable where male survivors and experts confront the silence surrounding men’s experiences.

EP 01

Unmasked

Amy recounts the abuse she endured at the hands of her predatory psychiatrist, with her family helping trace the fallout. The episode follows how her trauma pushed her to advocate for other survivors, weaving in testimony and expert insight on the often-ignored, long-term impacts of therapy exploitation, including non-sexual harm.

EP 04

Silenced and Blamed

Amy guides an unflinching look at how abusive therapists protect themselves by discrediting and intimidating the people they’ve harmed. Survivor testimony reveals tactics like falsified records, weaponized diagnoses, threats of legal action, and even false police reports—methods used to silence victims and deepen the damage.

EP 03

That's Not Who I Am

Amy meets with survivors and leading experts to examine how systemic forces—racism, transphobia, ableism, and other forms of oppression — shape the way marginalized people experience therapy harm. Their stories reveal how identity, power, and vulnerability intersect in ways that deepen both the abuse and the silence around it.

EP 06

The Aftermath

Amy follows survivors trying to rebuild their lives after damaging therapy experiences, revealing how few mental-health professionals are trained to recognize or treat this form of trauma. Survivors describe the isolation of cycling through unsafe providers, while experts unpack why inadequate training can compound harm—and what true, trauma-informed care must look like.

EP 05

The Code of Silence

Amy exposes the hidden networks that protect abusive therapists. Survivors join her to meet whistleblower Amy Avalon, who reveals the personal and professional fallout she faced after speaking out against a colleague. Current clinicians describe the pushback and quiet retaliation that can follow anyone who tries to report misconduct from within.
